- About Sugary

Hey there! I’m SuGary aka Gary Su, and I’m thrilled to welcome you to my community. I’ve called NYC home for 22 years, and my journey began with an insatiable drive to foster community and a deep passion for the arts and culture.
My Origin Story
In 2011, I embarked on a journey that would transform the cultural landscape of New York City. It all started when I began representing Jon Batiste, a now 5-time Grammy Award-winning artist. What began as a single connection quickly evolved into a whirlwind of shows, events, and encounters that fueled my immersion in the city’s vibrant cultural fabric. At my peak, I was attending 4-5 events a day, connecting with over 500 people each month—not just to build a network, but to forge genuine connections.
My relentless follow-up set me apart, as I always made sure to reach out to each person I met, often inviting them out for tea to deepen our connection. Over the years, my phone became a treasure trove of over 25,000 contacts, each one representing a meaningful face-to-face encounter in this ever-bustling city.
The Birth of Sugary Newsletter
As my network grew, I realized that to make a greater impact, I needed to transition from one-to-one communication to a platform that could reach more people at once. That’s when I teamed up with my friend and business partner, DK Kim, to launch the Sugary Newsletter in early 2023. I asked my 25,000 contacts if they wanted to subscribe, and 19,000 of them said yes. What makes this newsletter truly unique is that every single subscriber is someone I’ve met personally. And so, the Sugary Newsletter was born.
The Sugary Newsletter: No Artificial Flavors. Just Good Company
The newsletter isn’t just another email in your inbox. It’s a reflection of my passion for fostering genuine connections and creating spaces where people feel they truly belong. Every issue explores significant topics—from social stigmas to global issues—while inviting readers to join our highly curated events. These gatherings, such as The Empathy Project, Art Bath NYC, and RDI are designed to enhance community bonds and celebrate the cultural fabric of NYC.
Looking Ahead: Our Vision
We aim to cultivate meaningful connections and a vibrant community through live experiences by using the elements of culture to connect people in a curated way.
As Sugary continues to grow, I’m committed to building on our community's vibrant energy. The newsletter and events will remain a beacon of connection and cultural celebration, fostering a sense of belonging and inspiration in a city that thrives on diversity and creativity.
See you soon,
Sugary 🍬
