📣 Introducing DK!

I think it’s important that everybody really knows a little more about the inner workings of all things Sugary.

So, without further ado, I’d like to formally introduce you all to my very good friend DK Kim, who has been a longtime friend and established accountability partner(working out), and recently this year has really become a driving force towards everything that you’ve experienced since the launch of the newsletter and indeed the newsletter itself.

While I tend not to think of myself as the “talent”, I guess in this situation I kinda am, and where I tend to get lost in flights of fancy when it comes to the creative aspect of the events and DK has really been an essential part of organizing everything and making sure that a lot of these events get executed in a timely and organized manner.

It's truly fortuitous because DK has been a saving grace, propelling the Sugary brand forward. He’s helped me shift my focus from solely curating delightful experiences to also minding the community and the brand in a more scalable way.

Next time you encounter DK—and you definitely will—make sure to introduce yourself and express your gratitude. DK deserves a lot credit for the tremendous effort he’s poured in to help create the magical moments you all get to enjoy throughout the year.

Celebrate Our Friends! 🥳

I have a saying that I live by and I want to share it with all of you:

I firmly believe that we should take pride in the company we keep and seize every opportunity to express that pride. Life can be tough, and we all need those cheerleaders in our corner—people who genuinely inspire us, embrace their uniqueness, and bring out the best in us.

If you've ever been introduced by me, whether through text, email, or in person, you may have noticed that I go the extra mile to present each person in the best possible light. I do this for three important reasons:

It's an exercise in gratitude, allowing me to express my sincere appreciation for each individual.

It sets a positive tone for the interaction, increasing the chances of a successful connection.

When someone feels genuinely uplifted and valued in an introduction, they are motivated to live up to that ideal and image.

These reasons hold immense importance when it comes to building a strong community. Whenever I meet someone, I make a conscious effort to listen closely and understand what makes them truly special. It could be a fascinating fun fact, an admirable personality trait, or a notable professional achievement.

I can assure you that you'll witness firsthand how grateful people are when you recognize and acknowledge their exceptional qualities. It's an incredible act of good faith, one that I have incorporated into every aspect of my life, and I sincerely hope you'll consider doing the same.

Let's be each other's cheerleaders, celebrating and championing the remarkable individuals in our lives. Together, we'll foster a culture of appreciation and encouragement that uplifts us all. ✨

Past Events

Sun, June 11th - A Sweet & Simple Picnic - The Gods were with us as we were granted a reprieve from the crazy smog that plagued our town for that past week. Nearly 100 of you came out in force to enjoy actual fresh air and great vibes as we took over a not so small portion of Sheep’s Meadow and enjoyed a perfect day soaking in sun, savoring the shade and seeking greater connection. It was sublime and we’re guaranteed to host another before the summer season is done

Kagami

 🎼 Unveiling the Extraordinary: Kagami in Mixed Reality VR! 🔮

Last week, I had the absolute privilege of attending a sneak peek of the groundbreaking mixed reality VR production, Kagami at The Shed.This awe-inspiring experience brings together the genius works of Ryuichi Sakamoto in collaboration with Tin Drum.

Kagami, which translates to "mirror" in Japanese, is a mesmerizing and contemplative journey. At its heart lies a digitized Sakamoto, performing 10 of his original compositions against a backdrop of dynamic moving imagery.

The repertoire spans from his most renowned pieces, including "Energy Flow" and "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence," to hidden gems rarely performed.

Now, I've always approached mixed reality VR experiences with a hint of skepticism, as I believe the technology hasn't quite reached its full potential. However, Kagami defies my reservations. In this case, perfection isn't necessary; the existing technology is compelling enough to transport you into the realm of Sakamoto's artistry.

What makes it even more poignant is that this is a posthumous performance—a living memory crystallized within a digital specter of a Maestro gone too soon. The profound emptiness of the room where Kagami unfolds adds an extra weight to the entire moment.

During the show I attended, the room was filled with distinct sounds of sobbing, a testament to how deeply people were captivated by the sheer beauty of sight and sound.

Keep in mind that Kagami will only be available until the beginning of July. If you're seeking a profound and introspective experience, this production is sure to evoke an array of emotions and leave an indelible impact.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

Nia Drummond

In your recent digital travels, you may have encountered a mega viral clip of a woman, singing, happy birthday to none other than Busta Rhymes himself which touched his soul and brought him to tears. Well, I’m here to tell you that that woman is none other than the grand diva herself, Miss Nia Drummond.

Nia, is an incredibly gifted vocalist that can tackle anything from soaring operatic ballads to soulful Gospel spirituals to the complex rhythmical stylings of the jazz traditions, and everything in between.

To say that Nia is unique is an understatement, she is an incomparable talent. Already incredibly well respected among artists far and wide, it is fitting that Nia is starting to get her due at long last.

Do yourself a favor and be sure to keep tabs on Nia’s rise because it is inevitable. She is just THAT good. 

Nia has started a Patreon account as she begins to work on her upcoming projects.  You won’t want to miss what she has in store for all those that will support her journey.
