Welcome to the Sugary Newsletter by yours truly. đ đ
SO WHATâS NEW?!
Watch me become an "Influencerâ (...sort of)
As part of the deal in expanding on my brand, it's not merely events, itâs also sharing more of my experiences as they happen. I often forget to post because Iâm having a blast just enjoying the momentâŠwhich is fine if youâre not working towards building a brandâŠnot so great if you want people to share in your experiences.
SoâŠexpect more content from me; more IG Lives, IG Posts, Tik-Toks even :-D. I promise you Iâll stumble a ton along the way but hey I guess thatâs part of the âFUNâ.
More likes and comments are welcome but not necessary :P
As Denzel Washington says, âWithout commitment youâll never start, but more importantly, without consistency youâll never finish.â
Check out my first Tik-Tok reel!
The Sugary Effect
THE PILLARS OF "SUGARY" BRAND (Part 2 of 3)
đ Depth & Communion
New York City can be a lonely place, and it's earned the notorious label of "the loneliest city". But I'm not one to accept that fate and neither should any of you. I'm committed to changing that perception, starting by redefining the meaning of true connection and deeper relationships.
In a city where endless events vie for our attention, it's hard to discern which ones truly nurture the relationships we cherish most. That's where my journey began, which eventually led to the creation of FINE FOLK, a music salon series that celebrates those rare and uncommon relationships in our lives.
At Fine Folk, we have a saying, âMay the evening rise to the level of the relationships that brought you here in the first placeâ.
The stories are waiting to be discovered, and the evening is meant to be savored for all time.
What started as a humble gathering in a living room named affectionately after the resident pup, Buddy's Room, has grown in concept and depth since 2015 and officially launched in 2021.
Over the years, the salon series has featured over 50+ artists and gained the official support of cultural luminaries such as actress Freida Pinto, RHCP drummer Chad Smith, artist Bradley Theodore, Grammy winning musician Jon Batiste, and cultural business maven Swan Sit.
We pour months of planning and 5 figure costs into each event, including but not limited to paying our artists, hiring staff, bringing in a top-notch chef and team to craft a tasting menu etc
Thanks to the generosity of our past sponsors (i.e. Pearl Street Caviar, Glenfiddich), we've been able to create unforgettable experiences that celebrate the rare and uncommon relationships in our lives.
We're excited to announce that we're planning our next Fine Folk event for this summer, and we need your help to make it happen. So far, we've raised $7.5K towards our goal of $15K, and we're looking for a few more sponsors and/or collaborative partners to help us reach our target.
If you know anyone who might be interested in becoming a Fine Folk sponsor, please refer them to us.
We're eager to connect with like-minded individuals and organizations who share our passion for excellence and our commitment to fostering a deeper sense of community through the arts.
PAST EVENTS
Thur March 23rd - Our latest Happy Hour was a wonderful evening! Our community of over 40 people came out to commune and support our local bar business in the process. Cocktails flowed, conversations carried on, new connections were made and all in all a great evening bringing genuine people together!
Wed March 29th - Our first group dinner was a success! The owner of Kebaya Salil Mehta came out to greet the entire group and surprised us all with a welcome appetizer compliments of the house. Everyone had a chance to experience the beauty of Perankan Malaysian cuisine and expand upon their culinary knowledge! A meal worthy of a collective toast and weâre all looking forward to the next one!
Sat March 25th- If youâve ever hoped to have been early on something, to be âin the roomâ when greatness was being born, this is it. The 1st show of the Spring â23 season Art Bath was EXCEPTIONAL. From a live illustration set to vocal/piano performance about love and loss, to the enigmatic and disquieting musicality of an atonal gothic aesthetic, followed by bardic Dylan-esque musings of a singer songwriter paired with interpretive dance and ending with the rhythmic hypnotism of native Gnawa music. Just incredible. If this still isnât enough to convince you, go back to sleep and stop whiningâŠyou donât want to be âin the room'' bad enough ;-)

AND DONâT SAY I DIDNâT TELL YOU ABOUTâŠ
âA shoe is just a shoe, until someone steps into itâ
And when that someone is Michael JordanâŠ
Thanks to the Fung Brothers, I had a chance to catch an advance screening of this film and I gotta say, this film was absolutely INCREDIBLE.
AIR, which is set to release on April 5th recounts the tale of how Nike managed to recruit arguably one of the greatest athletes of all time and launch the âAir Jordanâ brand against all odds and at cataclysmic professional risk to all those involved.
Equal parts Cinderella, Jerry McGuire, and heavily seasoned with the American dream, AIR is inspired storytelling at its greatest.
The writing is imbued with life and personality into each character while balancing humor and poignancy on the finest of tips (pay particular attention to the clinching speech by Matt Damonâs character that is the capstone of the entire film).
Credit to Affleck for the brilliant directorial choice of never featuring Michael Jordan himself but rather maintaining focus on his mother as the central kingmaker in this fascinating tale.
And my God the musicâŠknocked out of the park with song selections that were nostalgic and novel; the chefâs kiss as a perfect portent for each and every key scene.
Every now and then a film comes along that just blows you away and is the total package. AIR is such a film. It doesnât merely take flight, it soars.
Do yourself a favor and see this remarkable film.
ARTIST SPOTLIGHT
The Strike
Gotta credit my own artists Movie Night that I represent for clueing me into this incredible band from LA by way of Utah.
The Strike is a modern band with a throwback vibe; their sound reminiscent of the spirit of rock and pop bands from the 70s and 80s.
With anthemic and easy-to-listen melodies paired with synth-saturated soundscapes that harken to the sonic nostalgia of yesteryear, The Strike draws upon the best elements of cool from this specific music style and presents a strong and unapologetic modern take thatâll have you groovinâ regardless of how much times passes.
Devils in the Canyon - (popular track)
Faint of Heart - (lesser known track)
Thank you for taking the time to read to the end! I hope you found something inspiring and meaningful in my content.
