Living in such a diverse city has had a profound impact on my life

Welcome to the Sugary Newsletter by yours truly.  šŸŽ‰ šŸ˜Š

SO WHATā€™S NEW?!

Iā€™m working on a new logo!

If youā€™ve been anywhere near me in the last couple of years youā€™ve seen the word ā€œSUGARYā€ emblazoned on my chest most everywhere I go. Well, after a million tries, Iā€™m creating a version in my own handwriting! Hereā€™s a sample of the work in progress šŸ˜ƒ

The Sugary Effect

THE PILLARS OF "SUGARY" BRAND (Part 1 of 3)

šŸ’œ Diversity and Curiosity

This is New York, where diversity and curiosity are imbued in every aspect. Iā€™m often struck by the kaleidoscope of experiences that unfold before my eyes every single day. The people are a snapshot of the world, reminding me of what it truly means to thrive and coexist.

Living in such a diverse city has had a profound impact on my life, and I am committed to celebrating this diversity through my community.

That's why I created the In Good Company series, a well-curated group of strangers who come together with open minds and open hearts, eager to expand their world in every way possible.

The next In Good Company event is coming up in April/May, and I can't wait to see what amazing new connections that will be made.

More details in the next newsletter!

PAST EVENTS

Friday March 10th - Salaryman karaoke was a HIT (pun intended)! Thanks to all who came out and committed to embodying a burnt out wage earner! It was an evening of sake bombs, light-hearted ranting and boisterous singing!

UPCOMING EVENTS

Thursday, March 23rd - A Sugary Sweet Happy Hour is just around the corner, and we can't wait to welcome all the beautiful people who are new to New York and looking to make meaningful connections. Whether you're a seasoned New Yorker or a fresh-faced newcomer, bring a friend who has good vibes and are new to the city and looking to connect!

Wednesday, March 29th - Group Dinner (max 15 guests) @Kebaya. My good friend chef Salil Mehta, in partnership with NYC Food Consultant Margaret Goh, is welcoming our community to dine with them at their new restaurant! Salil and his Michelin star winning team continue to bring the genius of their southeast Asian cuisine for all of NYC to enjoy this time, the unique offerings of Peranakan Malaysian Cuisine.

April TBD - Little Egg, the reincarnation of the beloved restaurant EGG by acclaimed chef Evan Hanczor, is set to open in early/mid April after being forced to close due to the pandemic. As a friend of Evan's, we're excited to announce a possible takeover of one of Little Egg's soft opening dates that stole the hearts of countless NYC diners in the last decade.

Saturday, May 13th - Art Bath Spring Show #3. Marchā€™s and Aprilā€™s show sold out in less than 12 hours so Iā€™m posting this now! I hope yā€™all will join me for the show on May 13th. Seriously, donā€™t miss out on this. Sign up HERE

AND DONā€™T SAY I DIDNā€™T TELL YOU ABOUTā€¦

ā€œPunishment will be administered!ā€ or so goes the saying with this zany gameshow-esque romp in the lower east side.

Inspired by a very popular style of Japanese comedy referred to simply as ā€œBatsu Gameā€, BATSU! is a blitz through 4 rounds of competitive hilarity. Contestants engage in simple games with the flavor of improv comedic glory. Those who fail challenges are rendered a light-hearted penalty that manifests in a variety of forms equal parts shocking and cringe-worthy (think of the show Jackass).

So if you have the appetite for a hilarious evening of ridiculousness, ring the gong and receive your Batsu!

To show some love to our community, the organizers of Batsu! will gift you with a FREE shot of sake when you attend a show. You just need to say 'Sugary Sent Me' and show your server this newsletter. Sign up HERE

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

Aisha Badru - Ethereal, poignant and serene are the words that immediately come to mind the moment Aishaā€™s voice permeates your soul.

Aishaā€™s spirit is deeply rooted in an elemental connection with her surroundings and the times.

With a whispering tonality, Aishaā€™s soothing melodies are utterly transporting and profound in their lyrical heft.

While she has gained some level of notoriety, she remains woefully underrepresented in my opinion and so Iā€™m doing my part to make sure her artistry breaks through into the collective consciousness. Itā€™s that important.

Waiting Around - Acoustic (popular track)
Bridges - (lesser known track)

Thank you for taking the time to read to the end! I hope you found something inspiring and meaningful in my content. I am excited for you to join me on this journey, and I look forward to sharing more with you in future newsletters.
