🍬The Scoop 🍬

WHAT’S NEW?

Social Battery, What's Yours?

So it's no secret that I'm seriously dedicated to enhancing your event experiences. Diversity and inclusion are at the heart of many of my gatherings, as you well know.

But as our community keeps growing, I intend on refining my communication so that you’re making choices to attend the events that suit you best.

Now, let's talk event vibes. Sometimes we're talking big, energetic bashes, and other times it's cozy, intimate get-togethers.

But the vibe isn't always crystal clear, right?

So in order to cater to my fantastic introverts and extroverts alike, I'm rolling out something I think will help.

Starting now, each event description will come with a label following the event description. This label will tell you whether it's an introvert's paradise, an extrovert's playground, or somewhere in-between.

Why? Because the concept of a "social battery" is a thing.

I want you to know upfront what kind of energy you'll need, helping you choose wisely based on your personal vibe that day or in general.

It’s all about balance, and speaking of finding balance...

THE SUGARY EFFECT

Discovering Balance

Over the past weekend, I had a deep conversation with a close friend, and he asked about my well-being. I opened up about how challenging this year has been for me. With genuine concern, he inquired whether I thought my life was in balance or if I needed a break for what he called a "reset."

In that moment, something clicked, and I had a real revelation. I shared with him that, surprisingly, I've actually achieved a greater sense of balance this year than in previous years. This left my friend understandably puzzled, given my earlier admission of struggles.

I went on to clarify that while this year has been a tough ride and my plate has been fuller than ever, it's been exactly what I needed to grow both as a brand and as an individual.

It's not that I wasn't productive before, but left to my own devices, I might have been too flexible with my timelines, pushing unfinished tasks to the back burner with the intention of addressing them eventually.

Now, that approach might work fine for a semi-serious hobby, but when you're building something meaningful, I'll confess I might have let my "Type B" personality take over more often than it should have.

So, even though my default mode is calm and serene, it turns out that this easygoing state was actually throwing me off balance, weirdly enough.

The evidence? The sheer number of accomplishments this year is about 3-4 times what I would have achieved were I left to my own devices.

This journey taught me that the concept of balance isn't a one-size-fits-all deal. It's not just the serene image painted by ads, like being in a Zen state while enjoying a probiotic meal in a yoga pose.

Sure, it could be that, but it's not the sole singular definition that it can sometimes be made out to be. I can genuinely say that the discomfort I've experienced this year in the pursuit of growth has brought me the most authentic balance in a long time. This might sound unconventional, but I firmly believe there's a relatable truth in this narrative.

Balance is personal, a journey tailor-made for each of us.

So, I urge you to dig deep and ask those tough questions. Strive for genuine equilibrium that resonates with you, rather than chasing an idealistic portrayal of it in the public eye ✹

PAST EVENTS

Happy Hour at Pier 17

Sugary Sweet Happy Hour at Pier 17! - About 130+ of you turned out for what was an amazing happy hour at Pearl Alley. We surprised everyone with a limited open bar that was generously provided by Howard Hughes Development Inc. and nearly 1/3 of you stayed on until long after the gathering had technically concluded.

Thrifty Thursdays (Chris Ee) x Sugary Restaurant Takeover - We literally packed the house and “took over” Lin and Daughters for a night. 20 of you joined us to enjoy a fantastic meal while listening to the beautiful origin story of proprietor Becky Lin and why she decided to create this restaurant as a celebration of her family’s love language in food. It was a fantastic evening and sets the stage for future takeovers to come.

The Grand Potluck (Mixology Edition) - About 30 of you joined for a wonderful evening of libations and lifted spirits at a gorgeous home in the heart of Soho. We reveled in the assortment of cocktails fashioned by our amateur mixologists within the community and delighted in the musings of master mixologist Jon Demske as he dropped sage nuggets about the art of the Cocktail. Congrats to our winner of the evening Kaiwen Zhong for the most popular cocktail and the recipient of the Death and Company Mixology Bible as a prize!

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

Movie Night

This band of brothers out of NYC have an incredible alt-pop rock sound that is immediately accessible, and their songs are incredibly infectious.

Their genre-bending melodies and hooks draw from the sensibilities of rock, alternative, punk, pop and EDM delivered through the clarion call of front man Mike Squillante who’s voice hits your ears like a sucker punch to the face.

Brother, Nick Squillante is on keys and mixes all of the band’s tunes while childhood friend Steve Ranellone holds it down on drums and percussion with the steadiest of hands and time.

Together the band has worked with top producer Will Larsen on some of their most seminal tracks.

In their latest batch of songs, set to be released across this fall and into the New Year, they are producing the tracks themselves, and offering an impressive lineup of songs that exhibit their versatility and curiosity within the space.

Attracting fans from all walks of life, but garnering a particularly strong amount of support from college students across the nation, it’s obvious that Movie Night is poised to have their moment in the sun.

I’ve supported their work since its inception and can’t wait to see what’s next for them.

For now they have a new single set to release next week and you can pre-save the track using the link below.

Take a listen, enjoy grooving out and don’t spare the popcorn!

Thank you for taking the time to read to the end!

I hope you found something inspiring and meaningful in my content and until next time, explore the possibilities of NYC.
