So…about that...

THE SUGARY EFFECT

Let's Give a Toast! (A Two Part Series)

Wedding season is in full swing, and I recently had the privilege of being the Best Man for my dear friend of almost a decade.

Of course, I had the task of crafting a speech that truly captured the significance of the moment. Being assigned the final speaking slot was both an honor and a challenge.

I realized that the speech needed that special touch to "bring everyone home" and encapsulate the essence of the occasion.

This made me contemplate the art of toasting and ponder why we engage in this timeless tradition.

People may have their definitions but this is mine (adapted from my actual Best Man speech):

In my opinion, a toast is the perfect gesture to conclude an evening or a moment because it demands our presence, intention, and acknowledgment through sound.

It unites us all in this very moment, as witnesses to an extraordinary event that will never recur, and allows us to share in the experience together.

Amidst the chaos of the world and the complexities of our individual lives, it is the sentiment behind our words and the resounding clink of our glasses which follows that cuts through the noise, resonates through time, and reminds us all right then and there of what truly matters...

Each Other 💕

Let us raise our glasses and toast to that... (Congrats Jesse and Lauren!)

AND DON’T SAY I DIDN’T TELL YOU ABOUT…

Jewish NYC pop culture is alive and well in this beautiful concept and community from the heart and head of the marvelous miss Jacqueline Lobel.

But this isn’t your mother’s traditional Jewish cultural community. Shtick is every bit as Jewish as it is NYC and visa versa.

From bagel-making brunches to Yekke-inspired dinners and Hot Kiddush events, Schtick has been curating unforgettable pop-ups with a distinct NYC kind of Jewish flair.

Each event carries its own unique vibe, but they all share a strong connection to Jewish heritage while clearly maintaining its own progressive identity.

Having had the pleasure of attending several Shtick events in the past, I can confidently say that they are incredibly enjoyable, engaging and accessible.

The community is thriving, and I'm eagerly looking forward to celebrating the richness of Jewish NYC culture with my fellow brethren!

Make sure to follow Schtick on Instagram to stay updated on their latest happenings. Keep an eye out for their upcoming pop-up event scheduled for the end of August to early/mid-September (a reliable source shared this with me! ;-))

Trust me, you won't want to miss it!

Count me in—I'm already making plans to be there! Let's come together and embrace the vibrant Jewish NYC pop culture!

L’chaim! 🥂

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

Grace Weber

This incredible Grammy winning LA songstress hailing from Milwaukee has an effortless delivery and a silken smooth voice that feels like a sonic massage.

But beneath that delicate exterior lives a deeply soulful spirit rich in gospel influence and textured through an R&B lens that reverberates outward and radiates as lyrical and melodic ambrosia.

The topics Grace writes about are all deeply rooted in personal experience and she’s able to convey her thoughts with a feel and vibe befitting her namesake.

Her talent is one for the ages and as she continues to share her talents we’re all privileged to enjoy her creative brilliance here and now, in living color.

Thank you for taking the time to read to the end!

I hope you found something inspiring and meaningful in my content and until next time, explore the possibilities of NYC.
