š¬ Sugary Scoop: The Quagmire of "We should meet up..."
Thatās the result of a mini experiment I ran over the last couple of weeks in which I presented myself with a simple question:

WHATāS NEW?
Do You Want To Know About More Events?
As youāre obviously aware, our newsletters goes out twice per month. However, in my conversations with members of the community, many have expressed the fact that sometimes you glance at the event section with an intent to RSVP and then, well, life happens and you forget to do so.
Iāve been told that many of you wish there was a way to have a more consistent reminder of whatās happening in the Sugary community.
I get it.
Soā¦Iāve been chatting with DK about possibly introducing a new focused email that gets sent out on weeks we donāt have a newsletter strictly focused on a summary of our events, AS WELL AS events that we donāt necessarily have an involvement in but we endorse and support that are organized by members of the Sugary community and share the same values we do.
For example:
Mar. 5th @ 6:30pm (Midtown) - Our dear friend Rita Vinnik is hosting an amazing event just in time for Womenās History Month with a comedy show featuring some of the best and brightest up and coming female comedic talent. The In Bed by 9 Comedy Showā¦The short and early show you've always wished existed is finally here! (Social Battery Level: LOW - MEDIUM Extrovert - Crowd Size 30-50 but you can keep to yourself)
Tickets can be purchased in the Upcoming Events section below.
So basically, Iām putting it out there in the form of a simple poll below:
Would you like a bi-weekly email dedicated to updates on events and happenings in the Sugary Community, sent during the off-weeks of our newsletter? |
THE SUGARY EFFECT
On Relationships (Part 3) The Quagmire of, āWe should meet upā¦ā
I ran a mini-experiment over the last couple of weeks in which I presented myself with a simple question:
What's the fail rate of my meet-up proposals if I throw out a "we should meet-up" and then never chase down the follow-up?
I used to say I canāt tell you how many times someone has asked to meetup or has agreed that we should meet-up, and the resulting date, time and place never transpired. But now I canā¦
ā¦about ~90%
This is by no means a scientific study obviously, but it is a sobering reality that I experienced.
Iām typically hawkish when it comes to follow-up. Iāll stop just short of stalking you to make sure if we say weāre gonna meet-up, that we actually do. But Iām not gonna lie, itās an exhausting endeavor especially when itās one sided. (please donāt take that to mean Iām perfect either. I assure you Iām not, but I think itās safe to say Iām above average in this regard)
How do we meet in the middle on this point?
If weāre all failing collectively at this high of a rate, I can only wonder how much overall strain this places on the act of maintaining relationships as a whole especially in this a.d.d. world we live in.
Itās just fascinating to ponder on the larger implications of this. What it tells me is that the reality of our day-to-day is fraught with so many distractions that if we donāt improve on the practice of making concrete plans, 9 out of 10 times it just doesnāt come to pass.
Think about all those missed connections and intentions falling by the wayside served with a complement of possible resentment, depression and worst of all accepted indifferenceā¦
Fortunately, there are ways to mitigate this issue that have worked for me and could be helpful to you:
Carpe Momentum - Momentum is a real thing and so is the moment itself. When there is a mutual interest to link up, seize that exact moment. Donāt take care of it laterā¦you likely wonāt. Not because of anything other than youāre gonna get distracted.
Put a Pin in It - Donāt miss an opportunity to get something on the calendar. Itās tangible. Ask for it, send a calendar invite and your meetup becomes that much more real. While you might not yet have a location set, see if you can at least lock in a date and time and in lieu of that, at the very least a date or series of dates. Be a bit persistent about this point.
A Quick Glance - Review your correspondence at the end of the day - It shouldnāt take long, but itāll really help make sure you havenāt inadvertently missed a follow-up in your end.
To-Doā¦but perhaps To-See? - Create a simple note in your phone called āTo Seeā and list down the people you intend to link with (preferably in person). Make this a running list and followup at the end of the week. 2-3 times should be enough per person on the list.
Now this does not guarantee a favorable outcome. However, it greatly increases the likelihood. If we all become more conscious about follow-up and follow-through, weāll achieve greater satisfaction in the relationships we want to build.
The road to hell may be paved with good intentions, but the road to relationships is paved with good follow-up and follow through.

SUPPER by Moosh
When I think about a home cooked meal, itās not just about the food itselfā¦itās about the care and thought behind preparing it, the history/culture that governs its ingredients/cooking practices and the inspiration of nostalgia it is sure to draw.
Now what if these same points were presented with authenticity paired with an artisan vision?
Enter SUPPER by Moosh.
This dinner series is the labor of love of master chef Behzad Jamshidi.
To feature this series, Behzad has literally transformed his home into a rapturous intimate dining experience that seats no more than 12 people per evening.
You wonāt find gaudy accolades hanging on the walls or over the top fancy tableware accouterments. What you will find is quality around every nook and cranny, warm vinyl spinning and the distinct smell of fresh barbari bread baked into a pristine welcome for every guest.
Indeed Behzadās culinary background is fine dining steeped in the rich traditions of his Iranian heritage, yet Behzad is a worldly student of his craft with the passport stamps to prove it. Years of study and travel to virtually every corner of the world translates into inspired dishes fusing techniques and ingredients from distant lands and cultures with dexterous yet measured discipline.
It is truly a rare moment when one gets to enjoy such a sublime culinary experience. Having attended one myself, I can tell you that this meal isnāt one youāll soon forget.
Tickets sell out fast so make sure you embrace the SUPPER experience today.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT
Lamont Landers
This native son of Alabama spent his early years immersing himself in the tunes of Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Sly & the Family Stone and so many other architects from our historyās southern sonic canon.
What has resulted is a deeply soulful voice summoned from within an unassuming frame that is incontestably stirring and harkens back to the golden age of music while conjuring up comparisons to bardic contemporaries such as Allen Stone.
With a massive TikTok following among them being yours truly and how I initially discovered Lamont) and enthusiastic fans such as Snoop Dog and Questlove, Lamont is well on his journey to discover his independent voice beyond the legendary covers that have thus far turned every ear his sound has graced.
Iām truly excited to stay tuned to Lamontās continuing journey because a win here is a win for music and my nostalgic sentiments are ALL about it.
